Faced with a skyrocketing number of kids being arrested in school for misdemeanors, the Clayton County Juvenile Court entered into a groundbreaking cooperative agreement with local schools system, police departments, department of children and family services, behavioral health services, district attorney and department of juvenile justice. The agreement sets restrictions on when children can referred to juvenile court for misbehavior in school and requires other interventions before the child can be prosecuted in juvenile court. The agreements has been very successful in reducing arrests while enhancing school safety.
